Ballhyped was launched in September 2010.
BallHyped doesn’t just provide users with a list of articles. The site is truly an actual, active community of sports fans. It is essentially a social network for those who love almost any kind of popular sport. The articles cover football, basketball, baseball, golf, and hockey. Anyone that loves sports can easily fit in on BallHyped. Users can learn about upcoming sporting events, discover things they may have not known about the sport, a team, or a specific player, and share their opinions through comments left for other users to read.
The BallHyped website takes on the typical social networking website appearance. A new user is greeted with a lot of information, images, and tools to wade through. The site is relatively well organized and a new visitor can get the hang of the layout quickly. The homepage provides highlights of recent posts with options for top posts for the month and the year. Users can also connect to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, email, and RSS feeds through the homepage. The site also provides convenient sports categories so users can begin filtering content based on their sport of choice.
A new user can create a BallHyped account by clicking on the blue “Register” link found along the right hand side of the homepage (just under the login area). Users are also given the option of logging in through an existing Facebook profile. The colorful BallHyped registration form asks users for a username, email address, and newsletter opt in. The opt in box is automatically checked, so users that do not wish to receive the newsletter will have to manually uncheck it. After submitting the registration information, the user’s password is emailed to the address they provided.
BallHyped does not charge users for account creation or accessing site features. This works in the site’s favor since it functions like a social networking website. The more users there are, the more sports related posts and content that will be added. There are no additional fees or premium paid account options, either, so everyone gets the same access.
BallHyped was designed specifically for sports fans. This is the group that can get the most benefit from the site. Users can find a number of popular sports covered through user posts and other content. BallHyped covers most of the major sports, so any fan can find something of interest.
